Toby’s Story

Toby came into ATTFR after being abandoned by his owners. Thankfully, a kind person stepped in to make sure he was fed and cared for while he waited for a safe place to land. He is now settling into foster care and getting the structure, companionship, and care he deserves.

Personality

Toby is a big-hearted, loving guy who is happiest when he’s with his people. He loves children, enjoys being included, and has a naturally easygoing, low-key side once he’s had the chance to stretch his legs. Like many Great Pyrenees mixes, Toby is also happiest when he has a purpose—and he’s eager to learn what his people want from him.

He loves to run and is always ready for an adventure. Whether it’s a run, bike ride, or quad ride, Toby is an enthusiastic partner who can really put some miles behind him. Once he’s had a chance to burn off that energy, though, he’s more than happy to settle in for some well-earned belly scratches.

Life in Foster Care

Toby is being fostered on a farm, which suits his love of the outdoors and his adventurous spirit. He absolutely loves going for rides and will happily climb onto the quad with his foster or hop into the truck when it’s time to go.

He enjoys being active and can keep up for quite a while—his foster family has had him running alongside the quad for over a mile, and he still wasn’t ready to call it quits! Once the adventure is over, Toby is able to settle back down and enjoy some quieter time with his people.

Learning & Growing

Toby is a smart, willing-to-please dog who simply hasn’t had much guidance in his previous life. He responds positively to instruction and is eager to understand what his people expect from him.

He has had little to no training around chickens, cats, or kittens, so these are areas where he will need continued management and teaching. He is respectful and responsive when using a prong collar and does not pull while wearing it, although he is still learning to walk appropriately on a regular collar. Toby is house trained, but he is not crate trained.

With consistent expectations, positive reinforcement, and a clear routine, Toby has plenty of potential to become an excellent working and adventure companion.

Looking for Their Home

Toby would thrive with a family who enjoys an active, outdoor lifestyle and appreciates a dog who likes having a job to do. A farm or rural property would be an ideal setting for him, particularly with people who understand the nature of a Great Pyrenees mix and are willing to give him structure and a clear role within the family.

His ideal people might be out running, biking, quadding, or exploring one day and enjoying a quiet evening with a big dog at their feet the next. Toby doesn’t need to be busy every minute, but he does need a family who can give him opportunities to use his energy, continue his training, and help him understand what is expected of him.

He’s a loving, eager-to-please guy who is ready for someone to show him what being part of a family looks like.
